Douglas Knutson Obituary

Douglas C. Knutson, 78, a resident of the Harbor for nearly 60 years, died at his home in Aberdeen, Friday, May 18, 2012. He was born in Darwin, Minnesota on June 10, 1933, the son of Albert M. and Hazel M. (Radonz) Knutson. He was raised in Little Falls and Brainard, MN and attended schools there. Doug joined the Army at the start of the Korean Conflict and served until July of 1953. On Aug 1, 1953 he married Sandra J. Leland in Aberdeen, a young lady he met while stationed at Ft. Lewis. Doug went to work for Elway Plumbing and then for plywood and shake mills on the Harbor until driving log truck for F. G. Peterson Logging until he retired in the 1990’s. As a younger man, he raced motorcycles professionally. As computers came into their own, so did Doug, programming and building computers to fit his needs. He also bought properties and fixed up the homes for rentals and resale. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and photography. Besides his wife of 58 years, Sandra, of the family home in Aberdeen, Doug is survived by two sons: Douglas C., II, and wife Candace, Aberdeen and Clifford C., and wife Donna, Hoquiam; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Three brothers, Roger, Gilbert and Floyd Knutson, died before him. A memorial gathering will be held at a later time.
