Enola Stedman Obituary

Enola Irene “Jinx” Stedman passed away on May 28, 2013. Jinx was born on November 17, 1931 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Manuel R. and Ann I. Williams. Enola lived in various states in the U.S. When she was young, she even had a southern accent! Her family settled in Westport, WA in the late 1940’s when her dad became a commercial fisherman. Jinx met her soul mate, Don, while she was working at Harms Grocery and Roller Skating Rink. They were married in 1948 and lived in Westport and Ocosta until his passing in 2006. Jinx had an eclectic career path. During her lifetime she was a crab shaker, a bookkeeper for various companies, including Washington Crab Producers and Brumfield Construction, a teacher’s aide, and last, but not least, a postmaster. Jinx became postmaster in Westport in 1989. Jinx had a passion for travel and loved to visit new places. Maui was a favorite destination, with later trips to Mexico, Europe, the South Pacific, and Asia. There wasn’t a craft that Jinx didn’t attempt. She was a beautiful seamstress and the family will cherish her homemade quilts. Her baking made the Stedman house a favorite meeting place for the “locals”. No one made a better wild blackberry pie than Jinx! Jinx was an active member of her community where she had been a member of the Ocosta School Board, on the advisory board for the Grays Harbor PUD, a member of the South Beach Ladies VFW #3057 Auxiliary, and volunteered for several years at Grays Harbor Community Hospital and the Westport-South Beach Historical Society. Her husband, Don, and her two brothers, Lester Williams and Gerald Williams, preceded Jinx in death. She is survived by a brother, James Williams, in Idaho, her four children, Cindy Greear (Larry), Donald “Reed” Stedman (Janet), James Stedman and Joseph Stedman. She cherished her grandchildren, Donald Greear, Jodi Keser, Zachary Stedman, Cory Stedman, Jessi Corrigan, Joshua Stedman, and Bobbie Stedman. Jinx is also survived by 8 great grandchildren. There will be a memorial held at the Ocosta Recreation Hall Sunday, June 2 at 1:00. Donations in Jinx’s memory may be made to the Ocosta Recreation Hall or the Ocosta Booster Club.
