Eugene M. ‘Gene’ Kuhn, Sr., 76, longtime Grays Harbor Resident and former Print Composer at The Daily World, died Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at this home in Aberdeen. Gene was born on June 15, 1941 in The Dalles, OR to Rudolph and Dorothy (Swan) Kuhn. He grew up in SE Portland and graduated from Franklin High School in 1959. He joined the Army in 1959 and was Honorably Discharged 6 months later due to family illness. He went to trade school and graduated with certificates and went to work for the Oregonian in Portland. He then went to work for the Hurst Corp. in California. In 1972, he moved to Montesano and went to work The Daily World as a Print Composer and worked there for 40 years, retiring in 2012. On September 18, 1982, Gene married Carlene E. Howell in Aberdeen. She resides at the family home. Gene loved to tinker and could fix anything of build anything. Loved his dogs, fishing and was an avid hunter when he was younger. He liked going to sporting events and impersonating Elvis. He played guitar and the Harmonica and even jammed with Merrel Hagert and Elvis Presley. Gene is survived by his wife of 34 years, Carlene Kuhn of Aberdeen; sons: Eugene M. Kuhn Jr of Vancouver, WA and Evan J. Kuhn of Aberdeen; daughters: Wendy (Carl) Falls of Vancouver, WA and Erin Kuhn of Ellensburg, WA; three grandchildren: Vanessa Kuhn, Dominique Falls and Carl Falls; a brother Jerry (Lila) Kuhn of Vancouver, WA. He was preceded in death by a sister Josephine Jackson. A celebration of Gene’s life will be held on Saturday, September 9th at 11 AM in the United Christian Church in Aberdeen.
