Evelyn Paul

Evelyn Bernice Paul, 95, a ten year resident of Aberdeen, left Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center, Aberdeen, Sunday, July 24, 2011 and joined the congregation at the House of God in heaven. She was born in Gladbrook, Iowa, February 8, 1916, the daughter of Henry J. and Clara (Eichmeir) Stickfort. She was raised in Iowa and had to quit school in the 5th grade to take care of the family home while her parents and siblings worked their pickle farm. Evelyn married Russell Williams in 1932 in Iowa. The marriage lasted 4 years and produced daughter Beverly. Evelyn went to work in a munitions factory during World War II where she met Frank Higgins. They married in 1943 and opened the Club Café in Waterloo. Later she worked 17 years as a steam presser at Sibert’s Dry Cleaning. Frank fathered her second daughter, Victoria and he passed away in 1968. Evelyn and Victoria moved to Santa Clara, CA in 1969 to be near Beverly. Evelyn then became a waitress at Saratoga Lanes in San Jose, CA for a number of years. She married Adam Paul in 1972. He passed away in 1981. In 2001 Evelyn moved to Aberdeen, WA to be near her daughter Victoria. Evelyn was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Iowa, First United Methodist Church in Campbell, CA and had attended Trinity and Our Saviors Lutheran Churches in Aberdeen and Saron Lutheran Church, Hoquiam. She had been a member of VFW Auxiliaries for over 75 years as well as the Eagles for over 50 years. She joined both organizations in Iowa and continued her activities in San Jose and Aberdeen. She was a past president of both in San Jose. She volunteered for the VFW at the VA Hospital of Palo Alto, CA as well as volunteering wherever she lived. This led to being president of the Rincon Gardens Housing Assoc. (a housing assist program) of Campbell, in which she also volunteered at the gift shop, volunteer work with the “Brown Bag Program” (a food bank organization), and helping out at the senior center of Campbell. She was known to give of herself to any person or organization that needed assistance which also led to her being named Volunteer of the Year for Santa Clara County in San Jose for her daily consistent caring and thoughtful help to all others. Besides volunteering, she loved spending time with her many heirs from being a Girl Scout leader to attending softball games and specially taking them to see Santa! She enjoyed music, dancing, and chocolate of any kind!
