Glenn G. Smith August 25, 1933 – January 1, 2012 Glenn Gerald Smith was born in Aberdeen, Washington on August 25, 1933 and peacefully passed away at his home in San Jose, California on January 1, 2012. Glenn’s father, Glenn Godfrey, owned and operated the meat market located in Aberdeen (Central Park) until his life was tragically cut short when Glenn was only 17. In 1952 Glenn married Carol Nielsen and continued to run the family business until he and his family moved to Seattle in 1957. In Seattle, Glenn went to work for Rath Meat Packing Company as a route salesman. Later he was hired by Boeing as a computer programmer. While working for Boeing, Glenn attended night classes at the University of Washington. Glenn went to work for Smith Corona Marchant (SCM) Corporation working in the data processing division which was later acquired by Control Data Corporation (CDC). There Glenn began selling computers for the company. In 1968 Glenn and his family moved from Seattle, WA to San Jose, CA where he was promoted to Regional Sales Manager in San Francisco. In 1977 Glenn and his family moved to Vienna, Austria when he joined the international sales group with a primary focus on Russia. While living in Europe, Glenn enjoyed traveling and enjoyed the rich cultural experiences Europe has to offer, including trips to visit his extended family in Finland. Glenn worked and lived in Europe until 1981, when Russia invaded Afghanistan. Glenn returned to the states where he opened a new division for Control Data Corporation in the bay area that focused on enterprise products and educational systems. In the late1980’s Glenn started a new company, Holographic Systems, Inc. Originally setup to sell computer systems and supplies in Russia, the company quickly expanded into a diversified import/export business that included wine products, auto parts, and an investment in a golf course located in Russia. In 1992 Carol (Nielsen), his wife of 40 years, passed away. Glenn married Brigitte Kalb in November 2006. Glenn is survived by his wife Brigitte (San Jose, CA), son-in law and daughter Jerry and Debbera Coker (Shelton, WA), son Glenn Smith (Austin, TX), grandchildren Chris Coker, Taylor Smith, and Shelby Smith, great-grandson Dante Coker, and Cousin Virgil Smith (Westport, WA).
