Harley Grimes Obituary

Harley Levern Grimes, 87, a maintenance man for a Westport crab company for 49 years, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Saturday, January 15, 2011. Harley was born in Rochester, WA on January 21, 1923, the son of Chester and Mary (Keys) Grimes. He attended schools in Rochester through the 6th grade. The family had lived at Ceres, WA, near Rainbow Falls, and then John’s River. He attended school at Ocosta. He served in the Army in the South Pacific during World War Two and had worked at maintenance for 49 years at Westport’s Kakainen Crab Processors, that became Washington Crab Processors, retiring when he was 75. He had made his home in Westport and Grayland. Harley was married to Bonita “Bonnie” Hill at the First Christian Church in Aberdeen on January 30, 1943. Bonnie died at Montesano December 23, 2005. Harley had been a member of the Westport Veterans of Foreign Wars since 1943 and served as a service officer doing honors for the Coast Guard at Westport. He had also attended Immanuel Baptist Church of Hoquiam and enjoyed rebuilding old cars. Harley is survived by a son, Ron, Sandy, UT; a daughter: Marilyn, and husband Patrick, Atkinson, Ethel, WA; and four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Two brothers and three sisters died before him. Visitation will be in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen, Wednesday, January 19th from 9 AM until Noon. A graveside service will be held at 1 PM in Fern Hill Cemetery. Reverend Kent Gravley, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church, will officiate.
