Katherine Anna Gomery, one of Grays Harbor oldest residents, died at Pacific Care Center, Hoquiam, Sunday, December 27, 2015 at the age of 110. She was born in Vancouver, BC, Canada on February 24, 1905.

As a baby she moved with her family to San Francisco and then Germany. After the war she was able to return to America in her 20’s. Perhaps a trying childhood toughened her for a long life. She survived the San Francisco earthquake in 1906, World War I in Germany, starvation and the Spanish Flu, all before her 13th birthday.

Katherine was married to Fred Warias in the 1920’s and he died in a construction accident, leaving her a widow with a young son, Al, at 27 just at the start of the great depression. In the 1930’s she married Joseph Gomery and had a second son, Victor. Joseph died in 1963 and her first son, Al, died of cancer that same decade. Katherine had also outlived her three brothers.

She had been a blueprint clerk for Cannon Electric in Los Angeles and retired in the late 1960’s. She moved to Seattle in the early 1970’s and had lived at Wesley Terrace, Des Moines. She would come to Brooklyn in the North River area in 1996 and then had lived in Aberdeen with her son.

Katherine is survived by a son, Victor and his wife Maryann, Aberdeen; three grandchildren: Eddie Gomery, Sandy Lauer and Aletha Swanson; and 4 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, January 13th at the North River Cemetery, Brooklyn.
