Leland Cobain Obituary

Leland E. Cobain, 89, lifelong resident of Montesano died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen, Wednesday, May 29, 2013. He was born in Montesano October 24, 1923, the son of John James Arthur and Grace Alameda (Gibson) Cobain. He attended Montesano schools and served in the Marine Corps during World War Two. Following the war he was a fireman for the Aberdeen Fire Department and later in the 1950’s became an operating engineer for Interstate Asphalt Co. of Aberdeen. He retired in 1973. He was married to Iris Maxine LaBrot in Montesano August 26, 1944. After his retirement they spent their winters at Yuma, AZ. Mrs. Cobain died in Aberdeen in 1997. Leland was a member of the Montesano Veterans of Foreign Wars and was an avid follower of the Montesano High School Football teams. He also liked to collect model cars. He is survived by three sons: Donald L. and wife Jennifer, Bellingham, James N., Olympia and Gary A., Montesano; and seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Ernie, Burl, Kenneth and Arthur Cobain, a sister: Hazel Lyse; and a grandson: Kurt Cobain. At his request there will be no formal funeral services. Private inurnment will be in Wynoochee Cemetery, Montesano. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Montesano High School football program, 303 N.
