Marie Lawrence

Longtime Harbor resident Marie Theresa Lawrence, 95, died peacefully at Westhaven Villa, Aberdeen, Saturday, October 22, 2016. She was born in Plummer, MN, October 20, 1921, the daughter of Michael and Anna (Hoffman) Fehr. She was raised in Plummer and graduated from Plummer High School in 1940. She moved to San Francisco where she met Robert Lawrence and they were married there on July 23, 1942. Robert went on to serve in the war and Marie came to Bremerton where she worked for the State of Washington. Following the war they came to Aberdeen where Robert served his apprenticeship and also as a journeyman electrician for many years. Marie was the activities director at Grays Harbor Health & Rehabilitation Center. She and Robert lived in places in North Aberdeen, eventually taking residence in Bear Gulch for 18 years before going to Montesano in 1976. Robert died in Seattle on February 19, 1985. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Montesano, was active in the Grays Harbor Community Clothing Bank. She enjoyed making soup for those less fortunate. She liked to crochet, read, cook and garden. She enjoyed her grandchildren, their school and athletic activities. Marie is survived by a daughter: Marlys (Bruce) Selleg, Shelton; two sons: Jim (Nancy) Lawrence, Montesano and David (Mary) Lawrence, Aberdeen; and also 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson: Travis Lawrence; three sisters: Helen Strand, Evelyn Rittenhouse and Alvina Charles; and a brother, Edward Fehr. The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Westhaven Villa. A memorial mass will be held at 11 AM Friday, October 28th at St. John’s Catholic Church, Montesano. Private entombment will have taken place in the Sunset Garden of Fern Hill Cemetery Mausoleum, Aberdeen. The family suggests memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
