Opal Mae Doust, 73, Aberdeen resident and former girls softball coach in Aberdeen, died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at her home in Aberdeen. Opal was born on October 3, 1937 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Marvin E. and Virginia A. (Green) Logan. Her early childhood was spent in St. Joe’s, but then her parents moved to Oregon and later to Hawthorn, CA in the mid 50’s. She later lived in El Segundo, CA before moving to Aberdeen in 1973. Opal married Thomas Doust in 1962. He died in 1997. Opal worked as an Inserter for The Daily World for a number of years and as a maid at The Thunderbird Motel in Aberdeen at he same time. But mostly, Opal enjoyed raising her kids. Opal coached girl’s softball for H&H Body Shop, Roglins and The 707 Restaurant. She was also an avid bowler, belonging to the Women's International Bowling Congress and was Secretary for the Friday Night Mixed Bowling League for 27 years. Opal is survived by 4 sons: Charles Bertelsen, James and wife Penny Bertelsen and Joseph Doust all of Aberdeen and William Doust and fiancé Connie Traxtle of Hoquiam; a daughter: Theresa Duncan of Olympia; a sister: Betty Winkler of Aberdeen; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren; Opal was preceded in death by a sister Wanda Ambrose. A celebration of Opal’s life will be held at the Eagles Hall, 204 West Market in Aberdeen at 11:00am to 2:00pm. Opal will be inurned with her husband Thomas at Fern Hill Cemetery.
