Richard Lovgren

Richard William Lovgren, 90, a longtime resident of the Harbor, died at his home in Tumwater, Washington, Saturday, July 23, 2016. He was born in High Point, WA on October 12, 1925, the son of Oscar and Augusta Johanna (Johnson) Lovgren. Richard was raised in Malone, Hoquiam and Lost Lake near Elma. He had graduated from Elma High School in 1943 and joined the Navy shortly after high school to serve during World War Two. Following the war he worked at the McCleary Door Factory and would begin he apprenticeship as a brick mason in Olympia. He would then return to the Harbor to begin his career of many years as a brick mason. In 1953 he had his own company and would be involved in building Linnenkohls Hardware, the Sam Benn Gym, Hoquiam Fire Department, Bishop Center for the Performing Arts, Wishkah Gateway Mall, amongst many other building projects on the Harbor. Richard was married to Janice Adele Peterson in Montesano, April 29, 1950. She died here March 14, 1999. He would then marry JoAnn D. Jull Witt in Central Park on February 14, 2004. He was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, the Harbor Haylofters Square Dance Club, Olympia Horeshoe Club and was the State of Washington Champion in 2011. He also enjoyed hiking, skiing, travelling across the United States, Sweden, Mexico, Sno-birding in Yuma, AZ, and of course, pitching horseshoes. Besides his wife, JoAnn, of the family home in Tumwater, Richard is survived by two sons: Douglas O. Lovgren, Montesano and Carl and wife Elkie Lovgren, Aberdeen; a daughter: Kristi and husband Ernie Hensley, Longview, WA; six step-children; a sister: Marilyn and husband Ollie Wilson, in California; and also four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard E. Lovgren in 2014 and also two brothers and three sisters. A graveside inurnment will be held at 11 AM Saturday, August 6th in the Wynoochee Cemetery, Montesano. A celebration of life will be held at 12:30 PM in the Montesano City Hall.
