Ronald Joseph Jasper, 87, a resident of Hoquiam, died at the Port Orchard Veteran’s Home on Tuesday, November 18, 2014. Ron was born in Aberdeen on February 15, 1927, the son of John and Clara (VanLoo) Jasper. He attended St. Mary’s grade school and graduated from J.M. Weatherwax High School in 1945. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in after high school, hoping to serve as a pilot in WWII, but the war ended before he finished training. He then joined the Marine Corps and earned a Purple Heart in the Korean War for combat wounds suffered in the battle of Chosin Reservoir. He was Honorably Discharged in 1951. He returned to Washington and went to college at the University of Washington where he graduated with a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went to work for Weyerhaeuser in Longview and then for Lamb Grays Harbor in Hoquiam until his retirement in 1986. He holds 4 patents for his mechanical designs. In 1973, Ron married Elaine J. Brittain. Ron enjoyed the great outdoors, was an avid fisherman, hunter and rode motorcycles. He held a small aircraft pilot’s license and commercial captain’s license. He also loved to travel throughout the Southwest in his motor home. Ron is survived by his wife of 41 years, Elaine Jasper of Hoquiam; a brother Jack Jasper of Westport; Sisters: Delores Lauzon of Bremerton and Patricia Lonac of Aberdeen; Seven children, eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A graveside inurnment service with Military honors will be held on Friday, November 21st at 11:00 AM at Fern Hill Cemetery in Aberdeen. A reception will be held following the graveside at the Hoquiam VFW at 407 7th Street, Hoquiam.
