Wesely Steinruck
Wesely Herman Steinruck, 70, died August 28, 2013 at Montesano Health & Rehab Center in Montesano. Wes was born on December 28, 1942 in Everett, WA to George Olfield and Gladys Lorenz. He grew up in Everett and was raised by his stepfather Richard Steinruck. When he was a teenager the family moved their shake mill to Aberdeen and Wes continued to work in the family mill until joining the Navy in 1960 and was stationed on the USS Regulas, a Navy resupply ship. After his Honorable Discharge from the navy he returned home. Wes was known as a Shake Rat and had worked for most all the mills in the area until he was injured and couldn’t return to milling. Wes worked for Timberland Industries as an office clerk, but that just wasn’t his style. In 1992, Wes married Sandra Jean Braack at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Aberdeen. She resides at the family home. Wes was a Lifetime member of the VFW, Past District Commander and Past Commander of both Aberdeen VFW and Hoquiam VFW (he served two terms with each club) and he was also a White Hat Commander for the Aberdeen VFW. Wes also spearheaded the Child Safety Seat Program for Grays Harbor County, until funding from the government ran out. He was also a volunteer police officer for Cosmopolis Police Department and Aberdeen Police Department He liked to fish, hunt, woodworking, doing Indian beadwork and going to Pow Wows. He was a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and was very proud of his Indian Heritage. Wesely is survived by his wife of 20 years, Sandy Steinruck; sons, Richard (Rick)Lorenz of Hoquiam; David Jarman Jr. of Missouri, and Steven Steinruck and wife Patty of Kennewick; he had a couple of brothers and a sister Helen Bigham of Texas; sixteen grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Lorenz; a daughter, Julie Hagara; and son Keith Jarman. Also, he has a special cousin, Richard W. Welch, III, who led him to register for his Choctaw heritage and helped him with the all the paperwork involved. A celebration of Wes’ life will be held on September 7th , at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Aberdeen, at 2:00 PM.
