Jean Butts

Jean B. Butts, 86, a 5 year Wenatchee resident, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 1, 2010 at Blossom Creek Memory Care Center in Wenatchee. She was born on January 27, 1924 at Buckeye, Arizona, the only child of Niles and Faye Benson. She was raised and received her schooling in Arizona, graduating from the nearby Chandler High School and continuing her education at Arizona State Technical School at Tempe, Arizona. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in education and began her teaching career at McLaughlin Jr. High and High School at Medford, Oregon. She taught High School English, as well as Jr. High School Physical Education and Health. Following her retirement from education, she moved to Portland, Oregon and became a Real Estate Agent. She returned to Medford in the late 1970’s and in the early 1980’s, she was married to Dr. Donald Butts. Together, they made their home in Phoenix, Arizona for two years before returning to Medford, where they remained. In 2000, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Donald Butts. She remained in Medford until moving to Wenatchee in May of 2005. She is survived by one son, Craig E. Shepherd, Buffalo, NY; two daughters and son’s-in-law, Susan & Peter Romano, Quincy and Nancy & Tom Smythe, Portland, OR; one step-son and his wife, Denny & Shirley Berts, McCall, ID; one step-daughter and her husband, Diane & Steve Parsons, Salem, OR; two granddaughters, Sadie Romano, Portland, OR and Kelly Romano, Chicago, IL and four step-grandchildren, Jonathan, Jacob, Seth and Michael. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Donald Butts in 2000. A Family gathering will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Heritage Memorial Chapel, East Wenatchee.
