Lucille D. McCown, 91, a 27 year East Wenatchee resident, passed away Saturday morning, August 25, 2012 at the Young at Heart Adult Family Home in East Wenatchee. She was born on January 1, 1921at the town of Idabel in McCurtain County Oklahoma to the late William J. and Ovie (Taplett) Doan. She was raised and schooled in McCurtain County and following the completion of normal school, she continued her education by attending college in Durant, Oklahoma. She met Allen G. McCown and they were later married on August 8, 1939 in Oklahoma. They moved to make their home in Ontario, California prior to making a brief move to Sacramento and returning to Ontario. She returned to continue her education and received her Provisional certification to teach while finishing her degree. She taught third grade elementary school in Ontario and during the summers attended LaVerne College in Southern California until completing her degree in education. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen G. McCown on November 28, 1957. She continued to make her home in Ontario until moving to Saugus, California, now known as Canyon Country, California in 1968. She taught third grade there until retiring in 1985. Later that year, she moved to East Wenatchee to be nearer to her family. Lucille was a longtime member of the National Education Association, was a longtime Volunteer at Central Washington Hospital and a member of the Wenatchee Valley Senior Center. She enjoyed playing Bridge games at the senior center. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law; Allen & Karen McCown, Wentachee; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara & Lonnie Reese, East Wenatchee; one sister, Lois Brady, Norman, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Cory McCown, Port Angeles, WA, Tod McCown, DuPont, WA, Jeffry “Jeff” McCown, Seattle, Amy McCown, Renton, WA, Craig Reese, East Wenatchee. Brian Reese, Wenatchee and Kelly Arlt, Ellensburg; ten great grandchildren, Lindsey Arriola, Ferndale, WA, Jordyn, Madison and Carsyn Arlt all of Ellensburg, Shea Reese, Wenatchee, Ryan Reese, (WSU) Pullman, Jared Reese, Wenatchee, Conner McCown, Cibolo, Texas, Lauren McCown, Seattle and Dylan McCown, DuPont, WA and two great great grandchildren, Traci Gronlund, Wenatchee and Reese Arriola, Ferndale, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen G. McCown in 1957, her parents, six brothers, Otto, William, Ray, Tony, Ken and Dewey Doan and sister, Lillian “Sis” Clayton. A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Park with Chaplain Keith Kirkpatrick officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, from noon to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friends who wish may make memorial donations in her name to www.sisterconnection.org.
