James Markel

James H. MARKEL James H. Markel, age 78, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, March 31, 2017 at his residence in East Wenatchee. He was born on November 22, 1938, in Yakima, WA, to parents Louis and Clara Markel. Jim was Inducted into the Army in October 1957 and graduated from Marquette High School in Yakima in 1958. He then met and married, with pride, Patty Jo Seals in Yakima on June 3, 1961 and together they had two children, Christina Markel who was born in December 1963; and James L. Markel in November 1966. Jim served in Korea, and was honorably discharged in 1963 and was proud of the fact that he served his country and respected all others who served and is serving our country. His patriotism was reflected by his many American Flags and Bald Eagles. Jim worked as a sheet metal mechanic for Johnson’s Hardware as a sheet metal mechanic until he moved to Malaga in November 1966. He then continued his career with Wells and Wade for 30 years, retiring in 2001; Jim enjoyed traveling to Southern California, Utah, South Dakota; New Mexico with annual visits to Reno and Lincoln City. Jim enjoyed hunting, especially grouse hunting on the Colockum, camping, fishing, crabbing at Dosewallips, was a NASCAR fan of Dale Earnhart Sr. and Jr. Jim raced many years up at the East Wenatchee Speedway driving the 01 car where he made many long-time friends that shared his passion. Jim was also a member of Holy Apostles Catholic Church in East Wenatchee, WA Jim is survived by his wife, Patty, of 55 years, Christy Adamson (Kirk); and James (Val) Markel; grandchildren Callie Jenkins and Jaron Jenkins of Spokane; sisters Pauline (Dave) Siebol; Paulette Wetch of Yakima; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Les Markel of East Wenatchee. Many thanks to Dr. Tucker, his nurse, Lori; and all the staff at the Oncology Department and Hospice of Confluence Health. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Hospice or your favorite charity. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, April 6, 2017 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church in East Wenatchee with a reception to follow. Arrangements are by Telford’s Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee, WA
