Katherine Schauer Obituary

Katherine “Kay” Schauer, 96, formerly of East Wenatchee, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017. She was born April 14, 1921, at Medina, North Dakota, to Katherine and John Bitz. She was married on March 5, 1941, to Reuben Schauer, at Medina. In 1946 they moved to Peshastin, Washington, with their two young sons, Delmer and Wally. Their third son Mark was born in 1953. They lived in Peshastin until moving to East Wenatchee in the early 70’s. Kay and Reuben enjoyed retirement, square dancing, gardening and volunteering many hours at the Wenatchee Valley Senior Center, serving one year as King and Queen. They also enjoyed Senior Center bus tours around the northwest and Canada. Kay enjoyed reading mysteries, flower gardening, family holidays and baking, especially cookies for the grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006 after 65 years of marriage. In 2014 she moved to Wanda’s Easy Living adult family home in Wenatchee, where she received very loving care from Wanda and her staff. Kay is survived by son Del (Grace), son Wally (Nancy), all of East Wenatchee, son Mark (Bob Coffer), Lake Forest Park, grandson Rod (Nancy) and great- grandson Carson, Lakewood, grandson Andrew (Shiloh), Wenatchee, granddaughter Caitlin, Marysville, and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park, East Wenatchee, on Thursday, September 28, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center or charity of choice. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
