Shirley Ulrich Wenatchee, Washington Obituary

Shirley Ulrich

Shirley M. (Cameron) Ulrich, 88, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with her heavenly Father on July 7, 2017, surrounded by her children at her side. She was born in Wenatchee, WA, on January 23, 1929, to Daniel and Olga Cameron. She often spoke of many fond memories growing up in Rock Island, WA, on the family homestead. She attended Rock Island schools and graduated from Wenatchee High School. Mom kept her close childhood friendships throughout her life. While working in the fruit industry, she met her future husband, Daniel Ulrich, and they married shortly after on April 25, 1948, raising five children. Mom lived an amazing life filled with family, friends, neighbors, church, sports, travel, sewing, and fabric buying trips! Throughout her children’s lives, mom was an active leader in the Sew & So 4-H Club, Cub Scouts, scorekeeper for girl’s softball, PTA, homeroom mom, church youth groups, and many other activities, always making sure each child was actively engaged. We all recall the many field trips taken with the Gingko Mineral Society for several years. Shirley had a love of life and loved being with people, demonstrated through her many activities, interests, and friendships. Besides enjoying being with her family and many friends, she enjoyed playing volleyball, racquetball, golf, playing cards with her friends, gardening, potlucks, annual birthday lunches with three of her friends, cats, singing in church choir and with the Appleaires, and her passion - fabrics! Sewing was mom’s gift and passion, which she shared with the young and old. After retiring from working at the City of Wenatchee, Confluence Health, and working elections for the Chelan County Auditor’s Office, mom started her own sewing business, Prints Charming, and worked as a sewing instructor for local and national businesses. Mom always looked forward to fabric buying trips with her fun sewing friends! Our family was active in church, bringing us up at Calvary Bible Church for many years, and then attending Sage Hills Church (formerly Free Methodist Church), where she developed close friendships, especially with her care group. Shirley and Dan loved traveling to many memorable places with their wonderful care group family, having many wonderful adventures! So many of mom’s friends’ children became our friends, and what fun we had! The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff and the special “Caring Angels” at RiverWest Retirement Community for their loving care and friendship shown to Shirley. What a blessing you all have been. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Daniel, Jr.; and son, Michael. She is survived by her sons: Bradley (LeeAnne) Ulrich of Malaga, WA, Glenn (Teri) Ulrich of East Wenatchee, WA, Bryan Ulrich of Spokane, WA; and daughter, Jane (Rick) Pepin of Wenatchee WA; grandchildren: Mike, Darin, Rachel, Mikayla, Jessica, and Alexis; six great-grandchildren; and a wide community of friends who will miss her deeply and remember her fondly. A Celebration of Life Service for Shirley Ulrich will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2017, at 1:30 p.m., at Calvary Bible Church, Wenatchee. Services are provided by Telford’s Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee, WA.
