Mary Fealey Oak Harbor, Washington Obituary

Mary Fealey

MARY LINDA FEALEY Mary Linda Fealey, age 60, longtime Oak Harbor resident, passed away Monday, August 29, 2011, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, following a brief illness. Mrs. Fealey was born in Ancon, Canal Zone, on February 4, 1951, to Fred and Marion (Orr) Wells. Mary was raised in the Canal Zone, and graduated from Balboa High School in 1969. She attended Canal Zone College for two years, and received an Associates of Arts degree. On June 19, 1971, she married Guy M. Fealey at the Balboa Union Church. Guy was serving in the US Navy at the time, and during his deployments, Mary was employed in the Canal Zone, working for the Army and the Air Force. In January 1980, she transferred to Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, AZ, and the couple lived there for four years. In 1984, the Fealeys moved to Washington State, settling briefly in Puyallup, and moving the same year to Oak Harbor when Mary was hired as personnel specialist for civil service at NAS Whidbey. She retired as the first female Human Resources Office Manager in the history of the base in March 2009, having worked for many Commanding Officers. The Fealeys had been residents of their home in Dugualla Bay Heights since coming to Oak Harbor in 1984. Mary enjoyed bowling, reading (especially about Scotland) and needlepoint. She was an avid Mariners fan and enjoyed going to games with her children. Mary was very involved in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Rainbow Girls. A favorite past time of Mary was riding on the back of her husband’s motorcycle. She loved airplanes and jet noise, which was good in light of the fact that the family home sat near the approach to Ault Field. “Every day is a different air show” was a phrase she used to repeat often. Mary is survived by her husband Guy M. Fealey, at home; her son and daughter-in-law Guy Ethan and Alicia Fealey of Oak Harbor; her parents, Fred E. and Marion Wells of Kerrville, TX; her mother-in-law Florence B. Fealey of Kerrville, TX; her two brothers and their wives, Alan and Kathy Jane Wells of Atlanta, GA and Fred Wells Jr. and Tricia of Perth, Australia; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law James J. Fealey Jr. and Michelle; also numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jamie Laurayn Fealey on March 28, 2006, her father-in-law, James J. Fealey; also her daughter-in-law Alicia Fealey’s brother Cameron Groberg on August 8, 2009. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, September 10, 2011, 1:00 PM at First Reformed Church, 250 SW 3rd Ave., Oak Harbor, Pastor Jon Brown officiating. Memorials may be made to WAIF, PO Box 1108, Coupeville, WA 98239. Family and friends are encouraged to share their memories and offer condolences at www.whidbeymemorial.com.
