Sheila Pollock Obituary

Sheila was born at Tacoma General Hospital to Edgar and Eva (Benner) Quinn and became little sister to Patricia (Pat) O’Brien, Jean Matthaei, Harriet (Hattie) Price and Shirley Dashiell. Sheila attended school at St Patrick’s, Bryant, Jason Lee and high school at Aquinas Academy. She worked as a candy stiper at Tacoma General Hospital, and worked at the Temple Movie Theater she was also a cheerleader at Bellarmine Prep. She attended University of Puget Sound and joined Chi Omega Sorority. Sheila graduated with a degree in Occupational Therapy. After college, Sheila moved to Santa Monica, California to participate in an internship and work as a therapist at the VA Hospital where she met her future husband a foreign graduate student, Khalid Khwaja. She took a leap of faith and decided to move to Pakistan to be his wife. She became a mother to her only child Monica during this time. Sheila made a decision to return to the United States after Monica was first born, but not before traveling all over Europe alone with her 3 month old baby girl. This begins the love of travel Sheila maintained throughout her life. She and Monica moved to Old Town Tacoma. She landed a job as an Occupational Therapist with The Elks organization, working with disabled children, driving to their homes throughout Western Wa. After Sheila’s marriage to Khalid ended, local friends introduced her to Robert (Bob) Pollock, also a Tacoma native, and at this time in her life he became her 2nd husband and Monica’s dear dad! The three moved to Lakewood, WA where Sheila enjoyed being a wife and mom, and active in her neighborhood Evergreen Terrace for the next 30 years. She was involved in the Garden Club, enjoyed reading, volunteered at Monica’s school, Idlwild, and with the Campfire Girls. As a member of St. Francis Cabrini Parish she also taught CCD classes. Sheila began a new career as a travel agent and was the proud founder and owner of Quality Travel in the Green Firs Shopping Center of University Place. She assisted many people arranging their dream vacations! Sheila and Bob enjoyed seeing the world together, Some of her favorite places were the United Kingdom, Greece, Slovenia, Hawaii and New Zealand. However, she didn’t miss visiting every continent and just about every destination you could imagine, even exotic places like India, China and many countries of Africa and Central and South America! Linked with her travels, Sheila collected local dolls from all over the world! Sheila loved her sisters, nieces and nephews, she was so proud of being Monica’s (Miller) mom and keeping up with all of Monica’s friends through the years, later, along came Macy (Polson), her granddaughter whom she loved dearly, and treasured throughout the rest of her days. Sheila was also very happy to be “GiGi” Great Grandma to her precious Lia and more recently baby Evan. Sheila and Bob moved to Browns Point in 1995 where Sheila had the view of her dreams, built a swimming pool she always wanted and planted hundreds of roses and other flowers filling the yard and gardens creating an oasis. Her artistic talent and decorating skills came to fruition as she made the home their own. Sheila always had a knack for entertaining and many parties and family gatherings took place in that house! Sheila spent her life being kind and generous to her large extended family and many friends! She was an excellent hostess and cook. She had warmth, creativity, intelligence, humor and enthusiasm for travel and life in general. She will be missed greatly by many, and those who lives she touched will never forget her impact!
