William Lynn Coontz Obituary

Mr. William L. “Billy” Coontz, age 83, a lifelong resident of Belington and more recently of Nella’s Nursing Home in Elkins, departed this life early Tuesday morning July 21, 2020 in the care facility. Death was following a period of declining health.


He was born December 8, 1936 at Belington, a son of the late Eugene Weldon “Gene” and Edna Virginia Skidmore Coontz. On August 21, 1954 he was united in marriage to the former Ruth Ann Canterbury, who preceded him in death on August 25, 2017.


He is survived by four children; Eric Coontz of Belington, Greg Coontz and wife Tracy of Parson, Sheryl Suder of Belington, and Deborah Scott and husband James of Springhope, North Carolina, two brothers; James W. Coontz and wife Jeanie of Belington and Donald R. Coontz of Belington, one sister; Elizabeth A. Weese and husband Phil of Washington, PA. Additional survivors include six grandchildren, one great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one sister; Barbara Jean McQuain.


Billy attended the schools of Bar bour County and was a Protestant by faith. He was a lifetime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #132 of Charleston, WV and belonged to the Shriner Osiris Temple of Wheeling. He was a member of the Belington Masonic Lodge #125 AF&AM, where he was former Worshipful Master and was honored with his 50 year pin in 2014. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.


Friends will be received from the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N Brandenburg Street in Belington on Friday July 24, 2020 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and again on Saturday July 25, 2020 from 8:00am to 12:00 pm, the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Scott Jr officiating. Interment will then follow in the Sugar Creek Cemetery near Belington. The Belington Masonic Lodge #125 AF &AM will conduct Ritualistic services. Due to the Governor’s recent order face coverings are recommended while paying your respects in the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.talbottfuneralhome.com.
