Dennis Richards

Dennis Ray Richards, Sr., 81, of Grantsville, WV reported for duty in Heaven on February 22, 2017. He was born at Leafbank, Calhoun County, the oldest son of the late George W. and Velda J. Smith Richards. Dennis was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Mattie Rosalie Hays Richards and one son, Ivan. He is survived by his children, Dennis Jr.; Wesley G.; Ronald K.; Tracy Buzzard; and Terry Wheaton. Dennis was a USMC veteran served during the Korean War, enlisted at 17 years old. He received the Korean Service Ribbon, National Defense and the United Nations Service Ribbon. After Korea, he enlisted in the US Army, serving in the First Infantry Division Fort Riley, Kansas and in the 7th Army in Germany. Dennis was employed by Stork’s Bakery in Parkersburg and Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Council a total of 28 years. He retired at 59 with heart problems. He has a total of 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. James Lough. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Norman Ridge Cemetery on Saturday.
