James Hubert Streets (Jim) of Martinsburg surrounded by his family, went to be with the Lord on his 88th birthday. Born December 1, 1932 in Elk Garden, WV, he was the son of the late William and Gertrude (Hopengardner) Streets. On June 16, 1956 he married the love of his life Janet (Males) Streets. The two would spend the next 63 years building an amazing life together until Janet went to Heaven September 28, 2019. They frequently traveled, visiting their favorite locations in Hawaii and Florida. His life was all about loving his family and making sure everyone had the best he could provide. He had a love for flying that started in his Air Force days and became a lifelong passion. He was an avid Disney fan. Disney World was one of his favorite vacation locations, entering the Magic Kingdom during the first week of its opening and continuing many times each year after that. He honestly believed Disney World was the happiest place on earth. Jim was a lifelong learner. He was a graduate of Elk Garden High School, Potomac State College, Hagerstown Junior College, and attended Shepherd University. In his professional career, he served in the US Air Force where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and numerous metals. He was most proud of the Korean War Service Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, and Air Medal all presented for his service in the air over Korea. Most of his life he worked as a supervisor for Mack Trucks in Hagerstown. After retiring he became a teacher at James Rumsey Vocational Center where he earned WV Teacher of the year. After his second retirement he supported Janet in her business as the installer for Janet’s Custom Draperies. He was a member of Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church, where he served on many committees throughout his life. Jim is survived by his daughters, Vickie Greenfield and husband, Roger of Martinsburg, and Heather Tomlinson and husband, Christopher of Berkeley Springs; son, William (Bill) Streets and wife, Alexa of Martinsburg; five grandchildren, Andrea Jenkins (Shad), Matthew Armel (Brittany), Alliee Hindmarsh, Mike Hindmarsh, and Zach Streets; two great grandchildren, Collin Jenkins, and Lukah Hindmarsh; sisters, Betty Cox of Keyser, WV, and Florence Wright of Alliance, Ohio; brother and sister in laws, Albert Males (Virginia) of Jacksonville, FL, Arthur “Wayne” Males (Karen) of Severna Park, MD, June Owens, Eleanor Paull of Morgantown, WV and Nita Fridley (Fritz) of Glenburnie, MD; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janet; son, James “Jimmy” Streets, II; brother, Robert Streets; and a sister, Ada Mae Streets. The Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood will be open for family to receive friends only from the hours of 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, December 4, 2020. Visitors will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and follow directives. Service will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the chapel. Interment will be held in Gerrardstown Presbyterian Church. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the healthcare team at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Martinsburg, and Hospice of the Panhandle. His physicians and nurses were loving and supportive of not just Jim, but the entire family. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
