Gary Butts

Gary Lee Butts, 74, of Hedgesville, WV passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at his residence. Born August 16, 1945 in Martinsburg, WV, he was the son of the late Frank Butts and Beulah Gant Butts. Gary worked 23 years at Perfection Garment. He owned and operated G&E Excavating and G&E Mobile Home Park with his wife. He had a passion for farming with his very close friends Jr. and Peewee by his side in the field. He was an avid hunter and passed his skills onto the next generation. He spent many hours riding on his gator throughout the farms. He loved spending time with his grandkids and teaching them his skills and knowledge. He also assisted in building Back Creek Valley Fire Department where he was a volunteer. He was a kind, loving, hard working man who loved his family very much. Gary fought lung cancer for 9 months before passing. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ella M. Butts; two children, Kristie Parrill and son-in-law Tim, and Cynthia Linaburg; mother-in-law, Ruth Ashton; four grandchildren, Kailee Parrill, Tanner Parrill, Daniel Linaburg, Brittany Noll; one great grandchild, Makenna Barker; two sisters, Brenda Elkins and husband Earl and Joyce Johnson; his adopted family, Marty, Seth, Cheyenne, and Gage Dehaven; and very close friends, Jr., and Martha Wanger, and Charles and Joyce Moore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Timothy Butts; one sister, Linda Dugan; and father-in-law, Paul Ashton. Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the chapel with Tom Snyder officiating. Interment will be at Central Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America, lcfamerica.org or St. Jude’s www.stjude.org.
