Alva Dunbar

Alva L. “Al” Dunbar, Sr., 81 of Fayetteville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 10, 2017. Al was the son of the late Hartley and Grace Dunbar of Mabscott WV. He was a member of the New Beginning Church of God in Glen Jean WV, He was a heavy equipment mechanic and loved hunting and fishing and working in garden. He loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Thelma Dunbar, his loving daughter Gwen Smallwood of Hagerstown, MD, 3 sisters Elizabeth Ball of Hinton WV, Madge Underwood of Beckley WV, Blanch Stover of Beckley, 2 brothers Henry Dunbar of Beckley and Guy Dunbar of Pigeon Forge TN. Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter Pam Loeffler and husband Tim of New Bern NC, his son Alva Lee Dunbar Jr and wife Irene of Scarbro, 2 brothers Hartley Dunbar and wife Gladys of Beckley, James Dunbar and wife Ann of Hagerstown MD Son In law Mark Smallwood of Hagerstown MD grandchildren Mark Allen, Chris, Cindy, Jason, Trina, Jeff, Alisha, TJ, Josh and Nicky and many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Services for Mr. Dunbar will be conducted at 1pm on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Hill with Pastor Allen Travis and Rev Greg Dunbar officiating. Interment following at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity. Pallbearers will be Mark Smallwood, Mark Allen, Chris Smallwood, Jason Smallwood, Jeff Bowyer, Josh Dunbar, and TJ Loeffler. Friends may call from 12-1pm on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made towards funeral expenses.
