Ruth Ellen Sharp Higgins, 89, of Weston, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital. She was born April 5, 1927 in Marion County a daughter of the late Claude C. and Eula Victoria Roberts Sharp. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband L. Ray Higgins. She is survived by her five daughters, Genive Martin of Weston; Margaret Johnson and her companion Robert Weaver of Weston; Joyce Taylor and her husband Paul of Weston; Melody Sue Warner and her husband Charlie of Spencer; and Beatrice Mayle and her husband Eldon of Weston; her four sons, William Ray Higgins and his fiancé Mary Weese of Weston; Donald Wayne Higgins and his fiancé Emma Riley of Burnsville; Ernest Lee Higgins and his fiancé Mary West of West Union; and James L. Higgins of Weston. Her grandchildren, Pam Lattea and husband Gary; Ruth Mangelo; Ruth Stuart; Genive Lattea; Sandra Higgins; Archie Ray Higgins; James L. Nicholson and wife Carrie; Melvin Jimmy; Diane Sprouse and fiancé Steve Smith; Crystal Kyer and husband Hoppie; Mary Peters and husband Stephen; Bobbi Sue Greathouse; Amanda Leggett and husband Jonathon; Beatrice Britton and husband Kevin; Ernest L. Higgins Jr.; Donald L. Brown and wife Crystal; Ashley Gallis and husband Andrew; as well as 23 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Juanita Nicholson of Shinnston. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Shirley Marie; her son and daughter-in-law, Archie Claude Higgins and his wife Cindy; two grandchildren, Linda Higgins and Joyce Emaline Nicholson as well as her sisters, Margie Riley and Virginia Deem. Ruth was a house-keeper for 35 years. She attended Broad Run Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Ruth enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 30th from 11:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Her son-in-law, Pastor Eldon Mayle will officiate the service. Interment will follow at the Sharp-Heldreth Cemetery on O’Dells Knob near Wyatt.
