OBITUARY Adelene M. Spiker, 88, of Jane Lew passed away on Friday, February 24, 2012 in United Hospital Center of Bridgeport following a brief illness. She was born in Ritchie County on July 15, 1923: daughter of the late Glenn Maxson and Gay (Britton) Maxson. On May 17, 1946, she married Lynn Spiker, who preceded her in death on April 3, 1995. Mrs. Spiker is survived by one daughter: Melinda (Byron) Chambers of Romney and one son: John L. (Sue Ann) Spiker of Jane Lew. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Kelly Hicks, Chris Chambers and Jonelle, John Bob, Byron L. and David M. Spiker and eleven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother: Charles Maxson of West Union and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Lynn, Mrs. Spiker was preceded in death by one sister: Arlene Booher. Mrs. Spiker was a teacher who taught typing and shorthand at Doddridge County High School, Weston High School and Lewis County High School and was a strong believer in the importance of an education. She received her B.S. in Education at Salem College and her Masters in Education at West Virginia University. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weston. Also she was a member of the WV and Lewis County Retired Teachers Associations. Mrs. Spiker was a member of the Red Hats Society and was active with the Lewis County Senior Center of Weston. Mrs. Spiker was known for her beautiful smile and friendly demeanor. She valued her friends and was always there to encourage others. Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home on Sunday, February 26, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with services conducted by family. Interment will follow services in the Masonic Cemetery of Crystal Lake in Doddridge County. On-line condolences may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.
