James Morgan Wimer, 86, of 2925 Old Route 33 Horner passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2011 in Holbrook Nursing Home of Buckhannon following an extended illness. He was born in Roanoke, WV on September 2, 1924: son of the late Oscar Ord Wimer and Zamie Fern (Moore) Wimer. On December 24, 1952, he married Lou Ann (Thompson) Wimer, who survives. Mr. Wimer is also survived by two daughters: Kathy Whelan and husband George of Weston and Janet Potter and husband Freddie of Bridgeport and three grandchildren: Michael, David and Sarah Potter. He is also survived by one sister: Glenna Watson of Damascus, OH and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wimer was preceded in death by one sister: Madeline Watson and three brothers: William, Leon and Elmer Wimer. Mr. Wimer was a union carpenter. He was a graduate of Walkersville High School with the “class of 1942.” He enjoyed traveling and flower gardening. Mr. Wimer was a veteran of the United States Army. He served as a private with Co E 27th Infantry 25th Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater during World War II (1943-1946). He was in the Battle of Gradual Canal and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Saturday, April 9, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Rick Wyatt officiating. Interment will follow services in the Weston Masonic Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted by the Lewis County Honor Guard.
