Sylvia Washburn, 81, born in Pearson, Georgia on September 28, 1935, was called home to her Father in Heaven on Friday, March 10th, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Otto D. Smith and Olive (Hall) Smith and late brother, Otto W. Smith. She is survived by her husband, S. Alfred Washburn. Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Allison Miller (Rev. Kenneth Miller) of Weston, West Virginia. She is also survived by her two sons, Mark Washburn of Benbrook, Texas and Michael Washburn (Ruth Hughes) of Georgetown, Kentucky. She was known as “Mana” by her six grandchildren: Mallory Miller, Nolan Miller, A. Scott Washburn, Marin Washburn, Michelle Washburn, and Hannah Washburn. Mrs. Washburn was a graduate of Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. She was a retired elementary school teacher and florist. She had a passion for music and taught piano lessons to numerous students. Sylvia had an unwavering faith in God. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Florida and most recently attended First Baptist Church of Weston, West Virginia. In addition, she participated in her church choir, often singing on choir tours in Europe. In her free time, she enjoyed watching musicals, was interested in interior design, and attended the Jacksonville Garden Club. Being a southern woman, Sylvia hosted parties with flair and genuine hospitality while delighting her family and guests with her delicious recipes. She cherished the Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter holidays and the memories she made with family and friends. Visitation will take place at Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston, West Virginia Tuesday, March 14th from 5 to 7 pm. A visitation will be held at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home on Cesery Boulevard in Jacksonville, Florida on Friday, March 17th at 11 am. A private interment will be at Arlington Memorial Park, Jacksonville, Fl with Reverend Kenneth Miller officiating.
