Jean Grosek

Jean Elizabeth Grosek, age 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 19, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Jean was born in Little Chute on August 4, 1925, daughter of the late Otto and Min (Vandenberg) Verstegen. She graduated with the class of 1943 at St. John High School, Little Chute. She so enjoyed her 10 years of girlhood dance lessons. Piano lessons stayed with Jean and she enjoyed playing the organ and piano all through her life. On September 16, 1950, Jean was united in marriage to Henry Grosek. The couple enjoyed 51 years together until Henry’s passing in 2001. Volunteering was a way of life in the Grosek family. Jean volunteered many years at area nursing homes and also helped at St. Pius Catholic Church with various events. A real love was helping out at St. Vincent de Paul in Appleton for over 30 years. The couple enjoyed 51 years of faith, love, happiness, and fun until Henry’s passing in 2001. First, and foremost, was the love that Jean and Henry had for their family: daughter, Faye (Steven) Grosek-Woods, Neenah; sons: Don (Beth) Grosek, Neenah and Dick (Terry) Grosek, Appleton; 6 grandchildren: Tech Sgt. Adam (Bridgette) Grosek, New Mexico, Eric (Katie) Grosek,Neenah, James Grosek, Boston, Tina Grosek, Neenah, Angela Woods, Appleton, and Alissa Woods, Illinois; 3 great grandchildren: Cade, Morgan, and Caitlyn Grosek; 2 brothers: Roger (Eunice) Verstegen, Oshkosh and Bob (Terri) Verstegen, Kimberly; 1 sister: Ione French, Green Bay; 2 brothers in law: Harold Mischler, Gillett, Harold Becker, King. She was further survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Min Verstegen; 2 sisters: Yvonne Hietpas and Beverly Mischler; 3 brothers in law: Bill Hietpas, Dean French, and George Grosek; sister in law, Marie Becker; and father and mother in law: Ted and Helen Gosek. A memorial service will take place at 2 pm on Monday, December 23, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette St., with Father Thomas Farrell officiating. Friends may visit on Sunday from 1 to 3 pm at St. Pius X Catholic Church, and again on Monday from 1 pm until the time of service. Interment will take place at St. John Catholic Cemetery, Little Chute. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Outagamie County 4-H and the Gardens of the Fox Cities. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff in the ICU at St. Elizabeth Hospital for the compassionate care shown to Jean.
