Carmella Sanford, 95, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Franciscan Villa in South Milwaukee just one week short of her 96th birthday.
Born in Kenosha on January 2, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Orrazzio and Rosaria (Marrone) Chiappetta. She attended local schools and graduated from Bradford High School.
On August 14, 1943, she married Louis Sanford. He preceded her in death on June 4, 1988.
Carmella was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and the Italian American Women’s Auxiliary Club. She enjoyed cooking, square dancing and singing.
She is survived by her two children, Kathleen Sanford of Mesa, AZ, and Daniel (Cherie) Sanford of Pewaukee, WI; four grandchildren, Julie (Tim) Palubeskie, Geoffrey (Leanna) Schroeder, Emily (Justin) Fisher and Abigail Sanford; and four great-grandchildren, Josef and Jaden Schroeder, Caitlin Palubeskie, and Bennet Fisher.
Carmella was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles (Janet) Chiappetta, James (Elaine) Chiappetta and Louis (Josephine) Chiappetta; and a sister, Helen (Louis) Scola.
Carmella’s heart was filled with the “best” of everything. If she were with us today, she would say, “This is the best funeral I ever attended!”
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 3rd, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. George Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
