Harry F. Poppie

Harry F. Poppie, 87, of Kenosha, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at United Hospital System-Kenosha Campus. Born in Kenosha on February 12, 1927, he was the son of the late Elton and Alvina (Peters) Poppie. A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he was educated in local schools. Harry enlisted in the United Sates Army/Air Corp on October 25, 1944. He received the World War II Victory Medal was honorably discharged on January 5, 1947. On June 5, 1948, he married June Petit in Kenosha. Harry was employed with Gordon Auto Parts and retired from KAT in 1987 to travel, hunt and fish. He was a member of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Teamsters Retirees and enjoyed working on cars. Survivors include his wife, June of Kenosha; four children, Paul (Wanda) Poppie of White Bear Lake, MN, Suzanne (Mike) Bain of Pleasant Prairie, Ken (Bobbie) Poppie of Kenosha and David (Sally Imbimbo) Poppie of Westhampton, MA; a brother, Richard (Helen) Poppie of Union Grove, WI; a sister, Phyllis Bakko of Bloomington, MN; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeff. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 15th, at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5038-19th Avenue, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Southern Wisconsin Veteran Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
