James Clifford Gleason Obituary

James Clifford Gleason, 84, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2015, at St. Catherine’s Medical Center. Born in Kenosha on May 31, 1930, he was the son of the late Clifford and Frances (Hunt) Gleason. James was educated in local schools. He joined the United States Air Force on December 29, 1950, and was honorably discharged on September 28, 1954. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. On December 1, 1956, he married Laura M. Nelson at Holy Name Catholic Church in Wilmot. She preceded him in death on August 4, 2013. James was a police officer for the Kenosha Police Department, retiring as a detective after 26 years in 1985. After his retirement, he worked part time as a postal carrier in Bristol. In 1994, he and his wife moved to Mountain Home, AR, and he returned to Kenosha in 2015. James was an avid Green Bay Packer and motorsports fan. He enjoyed hunting, traveling and collecting guns. He belonged to the Danish Brotherhood Lodge 14, the Elks Club, Moose Lodge in Mountain Home, AR, and the Twin Lakes Retired Policeman Association in Twin Lakes, AR. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include his two children, Kevin (Ione) Gleason of Pleasant Prairie and Colleen Gleason of Kenosha; two sisters, Mary (Jan) Jahnsen of New Lisbon, WI, and Susan Norman of Edgefield, SC; two grandchildren, Jay (Kim) Nelson and Aimee (Kevin) Rebstock; three great-grandchildren, Banon Gleason, Aden Nelson and Rylee Nelson; three step great-grandchildren, Josh, Nathan and Cameron Laviolette; and his beloved Border Collie, Nikie. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Gleason; two sisters, Joan Schwerin and Barbara Whitcomb; and a brother-in-law, Mike Norman. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 1st, at Proko Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with full military honors being performed at 6:45 p.m. Interment will be private.
