LaVerne Marie Moncher

<p>LaVerne M. Moncher, 79, of Kenosha, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Brookside Care Center, surrounded by her loving family.</p><p><br></p><p> Born in Bessemer, MI, on April 5, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Elsie (Peltonen) Jacobson and stepfather, Edwin Erickson. She was educated in the schools of Bessemer, Michigan.</p><p><br></p><p> On June 27, 1959, she married Lawrence “Larry” Moncher in Bessemer. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 27, 2009, surrounded by family and friends. He preceded her in death on August 11, 2009.</p><p><br></p><p> LaVerne worked at the Gogebic County Welfare Department as a stenographer and for a lawyer in Burlington, Wisconsin for a couple of years. She was also employed as a speech therapist for Kenosha Unified School District until her retirement in 1992.</p><p><br></p><p> She was a member of St. Mary’s Lutheran Church, volunteering as a greeter, helping hands, altar guild, quilt makers, and caritas. She was also a member of St. Mary’s Friendly Center, helping with the care committee and in the kitchen. She also volunteered with RSVP for several years. </p><p><br></p><p> She loved crafts, quilting, going to water aerobics, building jigsaw puzzles and listening to music. She enjoyed the Kenosha Senior Center; taking classes in yoga, health issues, going on trips, and watching movies.</p><p><br></p><p> LaVerne and her husband were members of the Circle &amp; Star and the Allemande Square Dance Clubs. They loved to dance, even square dancing in Germany. They enjoyed traveling with their RV to all the states except Hawaii. They also traveled to several foreign countries and took many cruises. </p><p><br></p><p> Survivors include her two daughters, Mona Moncher of Kenosha and Jo (John Hutchinson) Moncher of Concord, NH; a son, Mike (Kathy) Moncher of Kenosha; three grandchildren, Megan (Fabian Reyes) Moncher, Heather Moncher and Alexandra “Alex” Moncher, all of Kenosha; two step grandchildren, Genevieve (Ben) Mooney and Aurora Hutchinson; a great granddaughter, Naomi Reyes; two step great grandchildren, Makayla and Isaac Mooney. She is also survived by one sister, Carolyn (Donald) Moncher and two brothers, Eugene (Marcia) Jacobson and William (Lydia) Erickson. LaVerne is further survived by sisters in-law, brothers in-law and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. </p><p><br></p><p> She was preceded in death by her husband Larry, her parents and Baby Moncher.</p><p><br></p><p> A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, April 4th, at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church, 2001 80th Street, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at church prior from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be private.
