Mary Koenes

Mary Ann Koenes, 74, of Kenosha, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2014, after a brief illness. She was born in Kenosha on May 29, 1940, the daughter of the late John and Clara (Degen) Kueny. She was educated in local schools and graduated from the Dominican Teachers College in Union Grove. On December 26, 1963, she married Charles Koenes at St. Mark's Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2007. She taught for two years at St. Anthony Catholic School after which she became a stay at home mom. With her husband she owned and operated a mail order stamp business. She also co-owned Estate Liquidation Service. She enjoyed helping with “Meals on Wheels” and volunteering at various organizations. Mary is survived by her three sons, Bill (Lisa), John (Sandy) and James (Karen Meyer), all of Kenosha; three grandsons, Ryan (Jessica) Koenes of Chicago, Matthew Koenes of Milwaukee and Zachary Koenes of Kenosha; a brother, Don (Maureen) Kueny of Pleasant Prairie; and a sister, Patricia (Tom) Agazzi of Kenosha. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Alan (Nancy) Kueny and Bob (June) Kueny. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 7th, at Proko Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 8th, at Proko Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at St. James Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Shalom Center or Meals on Wheels, two organizations that were dear to Mary’s heart.
