Valerie Rush Obituary

Valerie D. Rush, 78, of Kenosha, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017, at her residence. She was born in Kenosha on July 9, 1938, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Francis (Hlapcik) Hagberg. Valerie was educated in the Kenosha school system and was a graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School. Valerie lost her father at the age of three. Her mother remarried to Clarence “Cliff” Johnson and he raised her as his daughter. She married Jack Rush in Denver, CO, in 1959; he preceded her in death in 1996. Valerie was a realtor for Bear Realty and other agencies in the Kenosha area, helped with her family’s fabric business “Julie Ann Fabrics” in Kenosha and later worked for United Hospital System-Kenosha Campus as a telecommunications supervisor for over 15 years. She was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s Choir, a former member of St. Mary’s Lutheran Church, participated in a bowling league, and she and Jack chaperoned many band and hockey trips for their daughter and son. She enjoyed traveling up north with her husband, going to the Bartley House for dinner, being a Girl Scout Leader and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and collector. Surviving Valerie are her children, Julie (Jim) Livingston of Kenosha and Brad (Kaylene) Rush of Appleton; and four grandchildren, Nicholas, Becca, Brooke and Rachel. She is further survived by her aunt, Helen Schweitzer of Kenosha; cousin, Jim (Carol) Schweitzer of Kenosha; along with other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Rene’ Rush. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, January 15th, at the Proko Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Kenosha Area Family and Aging Services, Inc./Volunteer Transportation Services would be appreciated by the family.
