Warren Zirbel Obituary

Warren C. Zirbel, 87, of Kenosha, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at Grande Prairie Heath and Rehabilitation Center in Pleasant Prairie. Born in Kenosha County on July 22, 1927, he was the son of the late Theodore and Rose (Steffen) Zirbel and was educated in local schools. He served in the U.S. Army from December 19, 1945, until his honorable discharge on February 13, 1947. On October 7, 1950, he married Nancy Ells in Kenosha. Warren was employed with Ken-Crete for 35 years. He would also help his brother Leonard with his Sunday milk deliveries and also help his brother Bill with building houses. He was a former member of Paris Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing, softball, dartball and horseshoes and was a fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs. His most treasured moments were when he was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Nancy of Kenosha; three children, Don (Jude) Zirbel of Kenosha, Lester (Tammy) Zirbel of Bristol and Jody Barnett of Burlington; a daughter-in-law, Deanna Zirbel of Burlington; two brothers, Bill Zirbel and Larry (Greta) Zirbel, both of Kenosha; two sisters, Mildred Jackley and Helen Miller, both of Kenosha; nine grandchildren, Amy V., Albie, Amy B., Mat, Brent, Brandon, Katie, Sarah and Amanda; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Arnie Zirbel; four brothers, Leonard, Lester, Wally and Wesley Zirbel; and two sisters, June Macik and Dorothy Nelson. The family would like to thank Arbor View, Casa del Mare and Grande Prairie Health and Rehabilitation Center for all of the kind and compassionate care they gave Warren. They would also like to thank George Tures and the retired Ken-Crete men for including Warren in their monthly card games. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 10th, at Proko Funeral Home at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
