Dorthy Compton Simpson Obituary

Dorthy F. Compton Simpson, age 88, of Reedsburg, formerly of Redlands, California, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Casa de Oaks surrounded by her family. She was born on September 17, 1928, in Rule, TX, the daughter of Robert Leonard & Nina Jayne (Taylor) Yarbrough. After a short time in Oklahoma and Oregon, her family made their way to California, where Dorthy graduated from high school in 1946. She then moved to San Francisco and successfully completed training as a Dental Assistant. In 1948, Dorthy married A D Compton, Jr. at the First Missionary Baptist Church of Tulare, California. After the first of their five children came along, A D entered the Gospel Ministry and began pastoring Missionary Baptist Churches. Throughout their lives, Dorthy’s dental career helped make ends meet for the family she dearly loved. In 1972, A D unexpectedly passed away and in 1974, Dorthy remarried and moved to Texas where she lived for 35 years before retiring to Wisconsin. She was member of the Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church of Reedsburg, devoted to her faith, loved her family deeply and brought a smile to everyone she met. Dorthy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, A D Compton, Jr; grandson, Johnny Thiem; great grandson, Tony Farrar, Jr. who died in the line of duty; son-in-law, Charles WIlliams, Sr.; brother, William Yarbrough; sisters, Margaret (Edward) Collier, Kathryn (Frank) Conley; She is survived by her children: Carol (Bruce) Turner of Canada, Stephen (Terry) Compton of Reedsburg, Esther (John) Thiem of Redlands, CA, Elizabeth (Scott) Breckley of Reedsburg, Rebecca (Michael) Kurth of Adams; Grandchildren: Charles, Jr. (Marlene) Williams, Deborah Thomas, Sarah Turner, Rachel Miller, Evelyn (Marshall) Cook, Cathy (Tony) Farrar, Kelly (Scott) Kallner, Ken (Amanda) Compton, Trisha (Jim) Ramsey, Greg (Sarah) Breckley, Brian (Elisabeth) Breckley, Nicholas McAdams; 20 great grandchildren; Siblings: Doug Yarbrough of CA, Evelyn Johnson of TX, Leonard (Pam) Yarbrough of TX; Sister-in-law, Nina Yarbrough; many nieces and nephews along with other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Dorthy Compton Simpson will be conducted at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, rural Reedsburg, with Pastor Sonny Hyde officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:30 PM until the time of the service at the church. Burial will take place at a later date in Hillside Memorial Park, Redlands, CA. The Farber Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements. A memorial fund has been established in Dorthy's name for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
