Helen Marie Hirst Sazama, 78, of Reedsburg, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017, at her residence. Helen was born January 30, 1939, in Westford Township in Richland County to the late George John and Wilma Lois (Borton) Krueger. On November 7, 1957 she married Harold Hirst, he preceded her in death May 31, 1991. On January 4, 2004 she married Theodore Sazama. She was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Helen was a member of the Winfield Homemakers club for years. Together with her husband Harold, the couple farmed in Winfield until 1991. She then worked at Schultz Brothers Dime Store in Reedsburg. In addition to her husband Ted, she is survived by her step-children; Teresa (Brian) Farrell, Mark (Patricia) Sazama and Gale Sauder, all of Minnesota, her eight step-grandchildren, two sisters Phyllis Evans (and husband, Alan Nerland) of Minnesota and Ruth (John) Montgomery of Reedsburg. She is also survived by two special nieces and two special nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral Services for Helen will be on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at 11:00 am, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Reedsburg. The Reverend Paul Crolius, Pastor, will officiate. Visitation will also be on Wednesday, at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will follow services in Greenwood Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in her name. Farber Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
