Leta Palmer Obituary

Leta Palmer, age 70, of Reedsburg, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016, at Select Specialty Hospital in Madison. She was born August 25, 1946, in Reedsburg, WI. Daughter of Raymond and Helen (Grotophorst) Palmer. Leta grew up in Reedsburg, graduated from Webb High School in 1964, and UW-Stevens Point in 1968. She was employed as a vocal music teacher for many years, then served as a graphic artist under private contract, later becoming employed at St. John Lutheran Church, Reedsburg, as an Assistant Secretary and musical accompanist. She was an accomplished musician, proficient in violin, french horn, percussion, piano and voice. She accompanied Saturday worship service at St. John, sang in the choir, and played bells. She enjoyed assisting dozens of students in their solo and ensemble efforts, but most of all, loved participating in The Community Band, where she percussed with great relish! Leta (aka Woody) was an avid gardener, creating and maintaining stunning perennial flowerscapes in her yard. When her mobility became limited by a traffic accident, she went right on gardening from her little red scooter. In addition to her artistic expressions in music, gardening, ceramics, sketching and painting, she volunteered at several senior facilities and the library, and eagerly anticipated the new school year at Pineview where she mentored fifth-graders. She had a soft heart for all animals, especially her shelter cats. Her artistic legacy may be surpassed only by memories of her good-heartedness. Leta was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Roy; and Uncle Walter. She is survived by a close cousin, Gary Hyzer, Reedsburg; a nephew, Robert Palmer, Waupun; best friend, Carol Schulz, Reedsburg; along with cousins, a host of students and former students, her church families, and a myriad of friends. Services for Leta Palmer will be conducted on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at 5:15 PM at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Reedsburg, with Pastor David Glesne and Pastor Joseph Corbin co-officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday from 3:00 PM until the time of the service at church Memorials may be made to the Sauk County Humane Society or the Sauk County Historical Society. Farber Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
