Nicolazina “Nicki” Ongna, 90, of Sheboygan Falls, entered into eternal life with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Pine Haven Christian Home. Nicki was born on March 13, 1927, in Sheboygan Falls, daughter of Dirk and Anna (VanBergeyk) VanWyk. She attended Starlight School in the Town of Sheboygan Falls. On May 19, 1949, she married Calvin Ongna in Sheboygan Falls. Calvin passed away on May 30, 2002. Nicki was employed as a retail clerk with Prange’s and Younkers for 20 years until her retirement in 1989. Previously she was employed with Kohler Company, Woolen Mills, and Navis’ Restaurant. Nicki was a lifelong and active member of First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls where she was active in the choir, children’s choir director, Sunday school teacher, Women’s Ministry, Women’s Trio, and the Good Shepherd Meal ministry. She also volunteered her time as a voter poll worker, Campus Life, and was a Red Cross Blood Donor and volunteer. Nicki enjoyed gardening, flowers, reading, cooking and baking, music, golf, bowling, crossword puzzles, bird watching, and trips to see her family. She had an appreciation for sunrises, sunsets, clouds, stars, and beauty of the skies. Nicki lived life with a quiet grace, often times preferring to be in the background, but always willing to do absolutely anything she could to help anyone else. Above all, Nicki had a special love of her family. Nicki is survived by her daughter, Barbara Ongna of Burnsville, MN; her son, Robert Ongna of Eau Claire; her former daughter-in-law, Marjorie Erickson-Ongna of Wausau; one granddaughter, Alison Ongna of Wausau; two brothers, William VanWyk of Sheboygan Falls and Peter (Delores) VanWyk of Sheboygan Falls; two sisters-in-law, Marlys VanWyk and Janice Ongna both of Sheboygan Falls; one brother-in-law, Eugene (Maybritt) Ongna of California; and nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Nicki was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Calvin, her brother, Jacob VanWyk, her infant sister, Wilhelmina VanWyk, and a sister-in-law, Edith VanWyk. A funeral service to celebrate Nicki’s life will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, April 10, 2017, at First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Brad Veenendaal officiating. Burial will take place at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery. Relatives and friends may gather at the church on Sunday, April 9, 2017, from 2:00 until 5:00 pm, and also on Monday, from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 10:30 am. A memorial fund has been established in Nicki’s name for First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls, Pine Haven Christian Communities, and Campus Life.
