passed away peacefully at her home in Sussex, WI on March 12th, 2018, at 71 years of age. Mary was born to Arthur Henry Horn and Arlene Pearl Horn (Mengsol) in Waukesha, WI. Mary will always be described as vibrant, and full of life. She had a big smile and comforting hug for you, even if you had just met. Giving generously of herself came naturally, as Mary maintained dear friendships, from as far back as elementary school. A group of those friends formed a “Taco Tuesday” dinner group a few years ago, which meets every week, at various local restaurants, to reminisce and share stories from each other’s lives. During her time as a youth group counselor at First United Methodist Church (Waukesha), with her husband (Eric), they organized and chaperoned summer work trips across the country, to promote growth in young lives and fellowship. The mentoring and support she provided to the youth carried long into their adult lives, as many of them continue to share their lives with Mary today. After helping move her family to Pewaukee, Mary formed some of her most cherished friendships with the neighboring families. A network of involved parents, they made sure that every child was cared for like their own, and no level of mischief went unnoticed. After “retiring”, from her part time job at Penzey’s Spices (Delafield), Mary sold her home, and moved out to Sussex (Sussex Mill Apartments) to be closer to family. She was an instant favorite of her new neighbors, sharing her childlike spirit and joy for laughter. Mary loved her time there, recently forming a walking group to improve their fitness and friendships. But it wasn’t until her first grandchild was born; that Mary’s calling in life was more evident. Mary enjoyed nothing in this world more than being “Nana” to her three grandchildren; Silas (6), Ansley (4), and Clara (1); Showering them with love and adoration, spoiling them with countless gifts, and sneaking Smarties into their pockets whenever their parents weren’t looking. Among some of the many other loves in Mary’s life were; photography, taking the back roads to wherever she was going, good cheese, great chocolate, and of course the Green Bay Packers. Mary was as special as they come and will be greatly missed by her two children; Marcus (Krissa) Packard of Richfield, and Alexis (Hasond) Packard of Waukesha, her siblings; Richard (Judy) Horn of Ohio, Sandee (dec Tom) Kovacs of Madison and Paula (Gary) Kohler of Florida, her grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, and husband Eric Packard.
