Janet “Jackie” Flood, 85, of St. Joseph, passed away, Saturday, May 07, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Church St., St. Joseph with Fr. James Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday with Liturgical Prayers recited at 7:30 P.M., at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home. Those wishing to sign Janet's Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Janet was born December 30, 1925, in Calumet City, IL, to Lawrence and Josephine Fiedorowicz. Janet was the youngest of nine children. She graduated from St. Joseph Public Schools in 1944. On December 29, 1947, Janet married John Flood. Janet was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and volunteered at Mercy Memorial and the Rose Center for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, collecting Santas, wintering in Florida, and dancing. Janet was the matriarch of her family and shared her love of cooking and caring for others. She lived her life with quiet determination, compassion, faith, and all-embracing love. Janet is survived by her husband, John of St. Joseph; son, Larry (Karla) Flood; daughter, Lee (Gary) Toland; four grandchildren, Joshua (Jillian) Flood; Ryan (Cristin) Flood; Brigid Steinhagen; Kara Toland; and four great-grandchildren; Henry Flood; Zachary Talley; Caitlynn Talley; and Madison Steinhagen. Janet was preceeded in death by her parents and siblings; Martha Fiedorowicz, Leonard Fiedorowicz, Dorothy Mahka, Dr. Lillian Hughes, Rita Emlong, Vee Ruff, Irene Schneider, and Adele Bowen.
