Wilma Jean Brown Obituary

Wilma Jean Brown, 78, of Coloma, MI, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 20, 2008 in Texas. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m, Saturday September 27th, 2008 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home; 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph with Pastor Wade Panse officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Friends may call on Friday, September 26, 2008 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. A reception at the funeral home will follow after the burial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jean’s name to the Grand Ole Opry Trust Fund. This fund is used to help those within the country music industry when adversity strikes. The address is “Opry Trust Fund 2804 Opryland Drive, Nashville, TN. 37214. Jean worked at the UAW local 383 as a bookkeeper for 27 years, retiring in 1992. Jean was president in 1975 of Southwestern MI Women’s Bowling Association for 13 years, and retired on September 1988. On May 25, 1988 she was inducted into the Southwestern MI Women’s Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service. She was Association Secretary for SouthWestern Micah Women’s Association, Treasurer, and Director. She was Vice-President/secretary of the Keglers’ Council. She was WIBC Convention Delegate for 26 years, and Michigan State Convention Delegate for 16 years. Fruit Belt Youth ABA Director for 14 years, and Tournament Manager. She was a Blossomland 600 Club Charter President. As President of SMWBA, she introduced: Local Tournament Visitation, Local Association Pin and Award Program, Local Tournament 200 game pin, Local Hall of Fame awards, Annual Champion of Champion Tournaments, Annual Foxy 55 and over Tournament, use of the Booster Emblem for promotion and participation in Team USA, local 25-Year Club, League “Secretary of the Year ” award, and developed the current policy and procedure manual and the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the local bowling association. Jean instrumental in the formation of the local Keglers’ Council which introduced the annual mixed couple’s tournament and the promotion of bowling through a bowling booth at the Berrien County Youth Fair. In order to accomplish the programs introduced, Jean initiated fund raising projects including those for office equipment, delegates fund and the 50th Anniversary. Jean is a member of the Michigami 500 Club, the Blossomland 600 Club and the 25-year Club. Jean was a Life Member of Women’s International Bowling Congress and SMWBA. Jean enjoyed country music, and became the President of the Whispering Bill Anderson International Fan Club for over twenty years. She represented, Country Music Hall of Fame, Bill Anderson, with his fans all around the world, and won several awards as having the #1 fan club in country music, and the #1 fan club journal. She organized Bill’s fan club celebrations of 30th, 35th, 40th, and 45th years as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. She organized and led the Fan Club booth at the annual Country Music Festival, fan club dinners, and fan club celebrations on the Opry Cruises. Prior to that she was MI state representative of the Fan Club for 5 years. Jean also was a member of the American Legion, and FOP in Coloma, MI. Jean is survived by her daughter, Glenda Brown, TX; son Greg Brown, CA; grandson Jason Brown, IN, and setp-grandson, Chuck Hopkins, MI, and many cousins.
