Richard D. Bittner

Richard “Dicky” Bittner, 76, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, July 17, 2006 at Caretel Inns of Royalton in St. Joseph. Private family graveside services and burial will take place at City Cemetery, St. Joseph with Dr. Randy Doyle of St. Peter’s Church officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Church. Mr. Bittner was born February 11, 1930 in Benton Harbor to Albert & Therese (Dorow) Bittner. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1948. Dicky served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, following WWII. He was the co-owner/operator, with his brother “Bud”, of Blue Lake Service Station on Lakeshore Drive in St. Joseph for 45 years, retiring in 1991. Dicky was a member of St. Peter’s Church and St. Joseph Elks Lodge #541. He loved to travel with family to see the different sights in the United States. Mr. Bittner is survived by three sisters-Marie Brado and Viola Vanderbeck, both of St. Joseph, Elaine Brouwer of Kalamazoo; and sister-in-law Doloris Bittner of St. Joseph. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters-Ella Ball, Clara Brown, and Lucille Ziemer, and by two brothers-Alvin and Allen “Bud” Bittner
