William Fryer Obituary

William “Willie” Fryer, 61 of St. Joseph, passed away, Monday, March 19, 2018 at Lakeland Medical Center, St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph.  Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 P.M. Willie was born January 20, 1957 in Benton Harbor to Leon & Helen (Bigelow) Fryer.  He graduated from Benton Harbor High School, Class of 1975.  Shortly after, Willie gained employment with the City of St. Joseph, retiring after 38 years in 2015 as Superintendent of Parks, Beaches, Forestry & Cemeteries.  He also owned and operated his own lawn & landscape business-Lakeside Landscaping.  Following retirement, he worked for GTI Services & Dave Schultz Construction.  On April 24, 1982 he married the former Rhonda Hawn in St. Joseph.  Willie was an avid golfer with two Holes-in One to his credit.  He was a member of Lake Michigan Hills Golf Club.  He also enjoyed bowling-with several 300 games to his credit, basketball and softball.  Willie was an avid Chicago Cubs & University of Michigan Fan.  He had a keen sense of attention to detail, was always willing to help family or friends in need and was always busy fixing or tinkering with something.  Willie enjoyed traveling and the time spent with his family. Willie is survived by his wife Rhonda; his children-Amber Cvengros of St. Joseph, Alex Fryer of Chicago; his mother Helen Fryer of Benton Harbor; four brothers-Harold (Laura) Fryer, Leonard Fryer, Joe Fryer, Dwight Fryer; his sister Mary Constant; and numerous nieces & nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father Leon, two brothers John & Paul Fryer and two sisters-Marie Fryer & Sylvia Cleary.
