Shirley A. Montey, 86, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away, Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Woodland Terrace Assisted Living in Bridgman, where she had resided for the past year.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 31, 2017 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 2673 W. John Beers Rd., Stevensville, with Rev. Jonathan Kruschel officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma.  Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph.  Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stevensville.  Those wishing to sign Shirley’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.   Shirley was born September 8, 1930 in Benton Harbor to Arthur & Ellen (Nelson) Stromberg. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School, Class of 1948 and attended Augustana Nursing School to earn her LPN certification.  On August 26, 1950, she married Gordon Montey at Saron Lutheran Church in St. Joseph.  Shirley was employed as an LPN for Doctors Feeley and Skinner.  She then changed careers, as she was a secretary with  Benton Harbor Area Schools for many years.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stevensville, and Hospice  grief support group since the death of her husband Gordon on September 16, 2011.  Shirley enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune & Jeopardy every evening, and cherished the time spent with her family.   Shirley is survived by her children-Kristine (James) Reschke of Broomfield, CO, Sandra (Michael) Fairbanks of Oak Creek, WI, Daniel (Laura) Montey & Douglas (Hilda) Montey, both of Coloma; eleven grandchildren-Karla Halsey, Aaron (Laura) Reschke, Heather (Josh) Stone, April (Ryan) Flagel, Jason (Susanne) Friesen, Stacy Friesen, Mariah (Evan) Bratz, Scott (Ashley) Fairbanks, Shane (Cassie) Fairbanks, David (Patricia) Muellen & Elizabeth (Daniel) Ruple; and eighteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband Gordon, Shirley was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter Harley Stone, and two sisters-Thelma Reifschneider & Marilyn Klann.
