Jennie Hemsath Obituary

Johanna “Jennie” Hemsath, 99, of St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, September 09, 2006, at home with her family at her side. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at St. Peter’s Church, 623 Church St., St. Joseph with Dr. Randy Doyle officiating. Private burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-7 P.M. Monday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, and from 10 until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church. A time of food and fellowship will follow the service at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Church, Hospice at Home or St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center, St. Joseph. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Jennie was born June 14, 1907 in Galien, Michigan to August & Bertha (Fiege) Kuden. On October 7, 1931, she married John H. Hemsath. Jennie attended St. Joseph Business Academy in St. Joseph. She was employed at Watt’s Laundry Machine Co., St. Joseph Machine Inc., and finished her working career as the secretary for many years at St. Peter’s Church. Jennie was a member of St. Peter’s Church for at least 86 years, and was active in the Women’s Fellowship. She was also a member of the St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center. Mrs. Hemsath is survived by her son Fred Hemsath of St. Joseph; four grandchildren-Jeff (Janice) Hemsath of Stevensville, Kathleen (Mike) Green of Ft. Wayne, IN, Ralph (Cheri) Kitron of St. Joseph, Richard Kitron of St. Joseph; eight great-grandchildren-Isaac Hemsath, Matt, Joe, Cara, & Katie Green, Ryan Kitron, Kaley Kitron, Caitlyn Kitron; two nieces-Caroline Siewert, Elaine Kerill; a nephew Art (Mary) Haase; and special friends-Nancy Robandt & Marlene Sarnecki. She was preceded in death by her husband John on July 29, 1974, three sisters-Pauline Haase, Lydia Buller, Elsie Herrmann, and her daughter-in-law Carole Hemsath in 1986.
