Ardys Schultz Obituary

Ardys was born in 1926 to Max and Minnie (Karsen) Ludwig. She grew up on a farm in Twelve Corners before moving with her family to St. Joseph where she graduated from SJHS in 1944. She completed her life at the Hanson Hospice Residence on April 24, 2017. Ardys loved dancing at Crystal Palace and Shadowland Ballroom where she met Louis Carl Schultz. They were married May 31, 1947 and had four children: Kathryn (Glenn) Zerler, Karen Schultz, Gary (Patricia) Schultz, and David (Jennifer) Schultz. Mom was always home when we came home from school, and was very involved in our school, church, sporting, and extra-curricular activities. Most of all, Mom wanted to be remembered as a good mother. Ardys and Louis founded Schultz Industrial Supply Company in St. Joseph; she kept the company books in her home office so she could be a stay-at-home mom. Before having children, she worked for Boy Scouts of America; later, when we were grown, Mom was a part-time bookkeeper for Rogien Construction in Eau Claire. She enjoyed golfing at Berrien Hills and Point O’ Woods country clubs, as well as traveling with her golfing friends to courses around the country. For ten years, Ardys served as secretary-treasurer of the Women’s Western Michigan Golf Association. She was a board member of Camelot Condominium Association where she lived until she moved to the Hanson Residence on April 22, 2015. Ardys was a competitive bridge player who often participated in local tournaments. While an active volunteer at the Krasl Art Center, she served as president of the Krasl Friends. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, and volunteered on the Altar Guild. She loved coffee, chocolate (!) and traveling. In her life, Ardys created memory books and photo albums for her children, for her journeys on cruise ships to various islands, vacations in this country and in others including China, Nova Scotia, Scandinavia and most of Western Europe. Ardys was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Franklin “Duke” Ludwig, and her husband. She is survived by her children, their spouses, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one niece and three nephews. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 404 E. Glenlord, St. Joseph, where a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 11am; visitation will be at 10am.
