Jessica (Jess) Christine Fortier, 23, of Matheson, Ontario, passed away on July 3 ,2020. Jessica was born in Sudbury to Barb (McKee) Clark and Pierre Fortier on September 2, 1996. She went to high school at Iroquois Falls Secondary School and graduated in 2013 as an Ontario Scholar. She worked as a 777 Haul Truck Driver for Primero Mining and at De Beers Canada in Attawapiskat. She loved drawing, painting, sewing, and all forms of art. Jess and her mother enjoyed a special close relationship, and spent many hours kayaking and dirt biking. Jess volunteered at Intrepid Place in Timmins. She had a deep care and understanding for people struggling with mental health issues. Jess was very understanding and had an unbiased listening ear for friends and family. She had planned to begin education towards an Art Therapy Degree and was enrolled in a Social Work program at Northern College starting in September. Jessica is survived by her Mom, Barb (McKee) Clark of Matheson and Dad, Pierre Fortier of Sturgeon Falls and her Grandparents: Ranald and Vivian McKee, Victor and Rachelle Fortier. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles: Thelma Byers, Donna (Joe) Pearson, Wayne McKee, Nicole (Jeremy) Lukianovitch, Linda (Les) Acton; her cousins: Brittney Waters, Jenna Witty, Lauren Denommee, Taylor Lukianovitch. Jess will also be greatly missed by her many extended family members, colleagues and friends. Jessica’s stepfather Bill Clark also passed away in this tragedy. Barb’s family held a small private memorial service on Thursday, July 16, 2020. Special thanks to the Matheson Fire Department, responding members of the OPP, friends and neighbours who responded so quickly in action and words, and Abitibi Funeral Services for the arrangements.
